How To Join The PA

All parents and caretakers of children at P.S.153. are automatically a member of the Parent’s Association (PA). You do not need to apply to join in order to participate.

The best way to make your voice heard is to join monthly PA meetings and to run for PA board positions.

Positions Available

Twice a year, the PA holds elections for various roles in the Parents Association and school parent leadership roles. The election in the Spring are held to vote for the mandatory positions. A second election in the Fall is held for additional, but optional board member positions.

Spring Election

During the Spring election, parents run and vote for:

  • President: PA board member; executive leader of the PA; member of the SLT and District 6 Presidents Council; leads PA meetings; engages with parents to encourage participation.
  • Secretary: PA board member; note taker and record keeper for the PA; sends out meeting notices; submits minutes for review.
  • Treasurer: PA board member; manages financial matters for the PA; submits financial reports; coordinates deposits to and payments from the PA bank account
  • SLT (School Leadership Team) Member: Meets with the school administration once a month to review school budgets, policies, and issues that affect parents and students. There can be up to 7 SLT members.
  • Title 1 Representative: Meets with the PA and Principal to discuss programs that benefit the parent community, by using Title 1 funds. The Title 1 Representative may also organize a council to collaborate with.

Fall Election

During the Fall election, parents run and vote for:

  • Early Education Representative: PA board member; represents the interests and affairs of members with students in grades 3K and Pre-K.
  • Elementary Representative: PA board member; represents the interests and affairs of members with students in grades K-5th.
